The game industry is the most profitable entertainment business, but it is also known globally for its lack of diversity and inclusion in game workplaces. In this talk we will discuss DEI from the perspective of one local game development culture, the Finnish game dev scene, and compare the global findings with the experiences of diverse game makers in Finland. The talk is based on Taina Myöhänen‘s ongoing research.
Taina Myöhänen researches diversity in the Finnish game industry at Tampere University’s Game Research Lab. Prior to research, Taina worked in the game industry and was involved in various DEI initiatives, including co-founding and chairing the DEI organisation We in Games Finland and being a member of the Finnish Game Industry Task Force to prevent sexual harassment. Myöhänen has received the Power Player of the Year award for the work on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Finnish game industry.
