Text-to-image generation models such as DALL-E or Midjourney represent a recent addition to creative AI. They have begun to rival the work of professional creatives, and sparked discussions on the future of creative work, loss of jobs, and copyright issues, amongst others. In this talk, Christian Guckelsberger reports on a recent study with Finnish game industry professionals, shedding light on their adoption, use and attitudes toward these models and their future. Arguably the most exploratory and comprehensive study of this phenomenon to date, it can inform industry stakeholders, policymakers and AI researchers to support the sustainable adoption of creative AI.
Christian Guckelsberger is a Computer Scientist, Art Historian and Assistant Professor in Creative Technologies at Aalto University. Christian is also a Visiting Research Fellow with the Game AI Group at Queen Mary, University of London. Christian is interested in how creative AI is perceived by its users and the general public, and how we can support its sustainable adoption in the workplace and in society. He conducts interdisciplinary, theoretical work as well as applied qualitative and quantitative research in various creative domains such as videogames, fine art and design, bridging between AI, HCI, Psychology, Philosophy & Creative Practice.
